What Actually Happens in a Session at Strength Made Simple
Simple, but effective
If you've never done small group personal training before, the not-knowing can be the scariest part. What will I have to do? Will I be able to keep up? Will I be the least fit person in the room?
So let me pull back the curtain and walk you through exactly what a session at Strength Made Simple looks like, from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave.
Here's the thing to understand first. Our sessions are simple, and that's the whole point. Simple doesn't mean easy, and it definitely doesn't mean ineffective. It means every minute is there for a reason, nothing is wasted, and you always know what you're doing and why. No gimmicks, no confusing circuits, no wandering round a gym wondering what to do next.
A coach tells you exactly what to do, keeps an eye on your form, and makes sure you're working at the right level for you. All you have to do is turn up and follow the plan.
How a session breaks down
Every session runs for around an hour and follows the same simple shape. Once you've done a couple, it'll feel like second nature.
The first 5 minutes: mobility and activation
We start by getting you ready to train. That means mobilising the joints that need mobilising, activating the muscles that need activating, and gently getting your heart rate up.
This isn't ten minutes of aimless stretching. It's targeted. We prepare the exact parts of the body you're about to use, so when you pick up a weight your body is warm, switched on and ready to go. It's also the part that keeps you training for years without picking up niggles.
The next 40 minutes: strength training
This is the heart of the session, and it's where the real results come from.
You'll work through strength exercises chosen to cover every major muscle in the body. A proper total body workout, so nothing gets neglected. Over the week it all balances out, and over the weeks you get stronger, leaner and more capable.
We weave bits of mobility in between sets too, so you're always making good use of your time rather than standing around. Your coach sets your starting weights, watches your technique, and nudges the weight up as you get stronger, which is exactly how you keep progressing instead of plateauing.
And before you worry: every exercise can be adjusted to your level. Complete beginner or years of training, you work at the right level for you, in the same room, all getting results.
The last 5 to 10 minutes: conditioning
We finish with a short burst of conditioning. This gets your heart rate up, burns a bit of extra fat, and leaves you with that genuinely good, buzzy feeling at the end of a session.
It's short, it's sharp, and it's the bit people are secretly a little bit proud of surviving.
If there's time: stretch and mobility
If we've got a few minutes left at the end, we use them for some stretching and mobility to help you recover and leave feeling loose rather than stiff.
Why this works
Look at that structure again and you'll notice there's nothing flashy about it. Warm up properly, get strong, do a bit of conditioning, stretch off. That's it.
But that's exactly why it works. It covers everything that actually changes your body and how you feel. Strength to build muscle and shape, conditioning for your heart and a bit of fat loss, mobility to keep you moving well and pain-free. Nothing missing, nothing wasted.
And because every session follows the same clear shape, you never have to think about what to do or whether you're doing the right thing. You just turn up, and the plan does the heavy lifting on the decisions so you can put your energy into the training.
It also means progress is built in. Your coach is tracking your weights and nudging them up over time, so week after week you're moving forward rather than guessing.
This is what we do across all our small group training, and it's a big part of why people stick with it when they've bounced off gyms before. If you want to see the kind of results it gets, have a read through our member stories.
